The Mask
I wear it well, this plastic smile.
Loved by all, a model citizen.
It covers an ancient soul,
Traits and desires unspoken.
I wear it for them, this guise of mine,
Hiding the reality of who I am.
I wear it also for myself,
women have been burned for less.
I look to you, green eyes pondering.
Do you know me, am I free with you?
Or are you just captivated with my
plastic smile?
